Vietnam exports $1.4 billion of wood products in January - May (28/05/2010)
Vietnam is expected to earn an export turnover of $1.4 billion from wooden products in the first five months of this year, an increase of 35% over the same period in 2009, according to the Vietnam Timber and Forestry Products Association. Nguyen Ton Quyen, the association's general secretary, attributed the increase to rising demand from traditional markets such as the United States, Japan and China, as Viet Nam News reported.
All economic sectors rebound in April (13/05/2010)
The Vietnamese economy has bounced back in April with high growth rates in three major sectors and FDI disbursement. The industry and construction had the highest growth rate of 5.65% against the same period last year. The value of the agro-forestry and fisheries sector jumped by 3.45%. Meanwhile, the service sector surged 6.64% on year-on-year basis.
CPI increases at 0.14% in April (13/05/2010)
Viet Nam’s CPI in April increased at 0.14% as compared to the previous month, the lowest rate achieved since March 2009. This successful achievement is attributed to major efforts made by the Government, ministries and localities in fighting back inflation while maintaining a 6.5% GDP growth rate in 2010.
Seafood businesses expanding export markets (13/05/2010)
Several seafood firms have seen export growth by conquering new markets such as the Republic of Cyprus, Brazil, Canada, the Philippines, Uruguay, Ukraine, and Algeria, according to the Việt Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).
Hotel business is positive in first quarter (08/05/2010)
Business performance of four to five-star hotels in HCMC in the first quarter was positive with revenue per available room up 10% compared to 2009’s last quarter, according to a Savills Vietnam Ltd. Report. The report added that revenue per available four to five-star hotel room was about US$73, an increase of nearly 10% compared to 2009’s fourth quarter. Revenue per available room has increased since the third quarter of last year until now, after a low period in 2009’s second quarter.
Retail sales increase 24% (07/04/2010)
First-quarter retail sales and services revenue surged about 24.1 per cent against the same three months of last year to almost 364.5 trillion dong (US$19.2 billion), according to the General Statistical Office figures. The rise was 14.4 per cent allowing for inflation.
CPI in February increases 1.96 percent (23/03/2010)
The nation’s consumer price index (CPI) in February rose 1.96 percent over the previous month and 8.46 percent over the same period last year. The General Statistics Office (GSO) reported that 10 out of 11 commodity groups recorded increases of between 0.12 percent and 3.09 percent, but post and telecommunication services dropped by 1.23 percent as a result of promotion and discount programmes.
Wood product exports recover (23/03/2010)
Vietnam's furniture exports this year are expected to increase as the industry has been showing signs of recovery, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Statistics from the ministry showed that in the last two months, wooden exports rose strongly, fetching 617 million USD, which was up 60 percent against the same period last year. Chairman of the HCM City 's Handicraft and Wood Industry Association (HAWA) Nguyen Chien Thang said most local producers received furniture orders.
8 trillion VND earmarked for 211 fishing ports (23/03/2010)
Of those, 178 fishing ports capable of handling over 2.1 million tonnes of seafood each year will be constructed along the coast of the targeted localities and the remainder will be built on islands, which are able to unload 215,000 tonnes of seafood per annum.
Vietnam coffee exports set to fall 40 pct (13/03/2010)
Vu Duc Tien, General Director of Tay Nguyen Coffee Export Co., said his company used to be offered bank loans of up to VND500 billion ($26.7 million) every crop to purchase coffee from farmers. But this year banks only agreed to lend the company VND100 billion, forcing it to seek other capital sources.
